PRISMA promotes joint research activities that otherwise would not be possible or difficult to achieve, either because of its multidisciplinary nature, the lack of necessary infrastructure or even the lack of critical mass.

The network has extended links with different groups around the world (e.g. Chile, Colombia and Mexico) to conduit consolidated experience in the Image, Optical, Applications, Implementations and Enterprise areas.

PRISMA activities catalogued as:

a) Horizontal activities, as inter-area activities within the network to provide added value to it by involving various groups belonging to different areas (e.g. medical and forensic imaging, optical, spectral imaging, imaging in microscopy, astronomy).

b) Liaison activities, as inter-relationships with other networks or affinity groups. Highlights the increased collaboration with other national thematic networks.
